Hey there! I’m Melinda (known by my clients as The Social Impact Queen) and I’m a Black, queer, nonbinary themme (they/she pronouns), neurospicy (ADHD) social impact strategist, wealth redistribution advisor, speaker, thought leader, and educator. I founded and am the principal advisor here at The Rooted Firm™, which is a social change consulting firm rooted in anti-oppression and decolonization praxis, and I have a TON of experience working in high level capacities for local, national, and international nonprofit organizations as well as social enterprises.

As a social impact strategist, I’ve worked with some of the biggest GRAMMY award winning artists and producers in the entertainment industry (think your favorite artist’s favorite artist) as a trusted advisor and project manager, which was fun and all but I’m in a space now where I want to make this work more accessible to the masses, (especially entrepreneurs) because the change we need to create in the world isn’t gonna come from celebrities.

I believe strongly in the potential for anti-oppressive business/commerce as one of many tools for liberation and I help rebels with a cause and passionate change makers in the spiritual entrepreneurship, coaching, and wellness spaces build liberatory, decolonial practices into their businesses, including through their giving.

I’m an instructor in Arlan's Academy and support upwards of 30,000 students around the globe with my Business of Social Change course, which is one of the only resources of its kind specializing in social responsibility education for startups, small business owners & entrepreneurs. I’m also the proud owner, and creative director of the world’s first high-fashion house of cookies and am building the very type of anti-oppressive business I teach about while focusing on innovative leadership in the movement for ethical luxury. Especially in times like this where old orders are falling, where white supremacy is flailing and where harm-doers, racists, xenophobes, transphobes, and all the -phobes are more emboldened than ever and as my grandma would say “showing their asses for the world to see.”

And I would bet a ton of money that you’re witnessing all of this happen and feeling that nudge coming from deep down because you know you’re being called forward right now

You know that as scary as things, they will get scarier if people like you who want to see a world where people are free from oppression and the suffering it brings stay silent or don’t take action.

One of the antidotes to those feelings of overwhelm or not enough-ness that might have you putting off action or spinning your wheels or doom scrolling (which honestly…do what you need to do to honor and soothe your nervous system because…fuck) is FOCUS.
